Raja Gondkar’s Jewellery Design
Rajan Gondkar after his graduation in Applied Arts from Sir J J Institute of Applied Arts, Mumbai; Raja Gondkar has been active for over 20 years in various art & design domains like advertising graphics, product design, poetry and other literary arts, apart from Jewellery.
Currently voted as a judge to several design competitions and writes columns for some Jewellery related magazines. He also involved in development of various courses ranging from short term to longer duration diplomas and imparting training in the field of Jewellery Design & Manufacture with several institutions in India.
In the Jewellery Design world, Raja has won several awards in many competitions, one of the prestigious award that he has received is the Overall winner prize in bridal-wear category and a Scholarship to Europe in the 1997 De Beers Indian Jewellery Design Competition.

Presently working as a Sr. Design Faculty at The Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery (IIGJ), Mumbai. A project of ‘Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council’ Supported by Ministry of Commerce, Govt. of India.
Here I worked initially in close association with German faculty in the setup, training, and development of various courses & course materials; including a 3-year Diploma in Jewellery Design & Manufacture Technology.
Current job profile involves, handling the department’s general administration, academic planning, training students and new faculty members, designing and developing new courses, study manuals, etc.
2002 – 03
Developed a complete syllabus & curriculum for 2-year full-time diploma in Jewellery Technology for State Board of Technical Education & Training (SBTET), Hyderabad.
Also conducted workshops in design & manufacture for the same, jointly with Mrs. Amee Gondkar.
1998-2003
Worked as a Consulting Faculty, at Jewellery Product Development Centre (JPDC) Mumbai, A project of ‘Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council’ Supported by Ministry of Commerce, Govt. of India.
Here I was responsible for Developing & Conducting short-term courses in Advanced Jewellery Designing & Manufacture.
1995 – 98
Worked as a Sr. Faculty at The Dept. of Jewellery Design & Manufacture of SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai.
From the day of inception I was associated closely with the foreign faculties in receiving training in jewellery design and manufacture and worked as a Sr. Lecturer thereafter.
In this capacity I trained future faculty and students at all levels. Many of my students have proved to be very successful in their careers and many of them have made a mark in various national and international jewellery design competitions.
